Ingredients | |

2 | Podalangai |
¼ cup | Moong dal soaked |
½ cup | Coconut grated |
1 tsp | Oil |
½ tsp | Haldi |
1 tsp | Urad dal |
1 | Red chilli |
Salt to taste | |
1 tsp | Mustard seeds |
Instructions
Wash and cut the podalangai into small pieces. Soak the moong dal for 10-15 mts. Take oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add urad dal, red chilli and saute till brown. Add podalangai, moong dal, haldi, salt and little water. Cook till done with cover. After done, remove from fire, add coconut and serve hot..

Not sure.. Coincidence I just made this today with kadalai paruppu, normally I make your way exactly ..May be this is pudalangai season. I just add 1/2 tsb chilly powder and 1/4 tsb turmeric . Soak and cook 3/4th side of the channa dhal and then add to pudalangai , since that veggie gets cooked fast.
Answering anietha’s question, if you are in US – Bay area then this is available in most of the Indian stores. This is seasonal veggie like Drumstick, only comes at certain times.

NB : I have some times noted that few pudalangai is very very bitter ( worse that bitter guard) not sure how this can happen , but atleast 3 times I had faced this issue, so now when its raw , before purchase I just eat a bit of the raw one and see the taste and buy. My mom was also shocked to see bitter pudalangai in US as she has never seen a bitter one in India. we had to throw the complete dish out.

if u r in india (delhi), u can get it at any of the vegetable vendors as it is the season time at the moment..
