¼ cup | Toor dhal |
¼ cup | Moong dhal (payatham paruppu) |
1 no | Onion ( chopped) |
1 no | Tomato medium size (chopped) |
2 no | Green chilli (slightly slit open in middle) |
1 no | Potato(small)(peeled) |
1 tsp | Mustard seeds |
1 tsp | Urad dhal(ooluntham paruppu) |
3 no | Red chili |
8 nos | Curry leaves (chopped) |
6 stks | Corriander leaves (finely chopped) |
2 T | Oil |
1 cup | Tamarind extract (adjust according to the taste) |
1½ tsp | Red chill powder |
1 tsp | Sambar powder (optional) |
1 tsp | Turmeric powder |
Salt to taste | |
½ tsp | Asafoetida powder |
Instructions
Chop onion, tomato and slit open the green chilli slightly. Peel the skin of the potato and wash well.
Wash toor dhal and moong dhal. Take the pressure cooker add the toor dhal and moong dhal with onion, tomato, green chilli and potato.
Add 1tsp turmeric powder to it. Add sufficient amount of water, and close the pressure cooker. Keep for 4 whistle till the dhal mash well. Cool it for sometime.
Open the cooker and mash dhal well with the potatoes and keep aside.
Heat oil in a Pan or kadai. Splutter mustard and urad dhal, When urad dhal changes the colour. Add red chilli, asafoetida and curry leaves.
Now add the red chilli powder, fry little and add the smashed dhal and salt.
Now add the tamarind extract and stir well. Keep in sim for 3 min.
Switch off the flame , Garnish with corriander and serve hot with pongal or idlis.
