Boy Choy is Chinese Cabbage with mild, sweet and extremely adapatable. They come in two varieties, either large bunch with matured leaf or as Baby Bok Choy, short stems with smaller leaf and available all year long in most super markets, farmers market or Chinese Stores. In this recipe of mine, have combined it with Split Moong to make this Keerai Paruppu (Dal).

Swiss Chard also known as silver beet is a leafy vegetable tastes similar to Spinach. My local farmers market use to over flow with these and everytime I use to hesitate to pick a bunch, just for the fear of not knowning how to incorporate this in our Indian cooking. But now, after little exploration, found a way to include this in our meal. I have used green gram to make this lentil curry and to my surprise, it turned good.

1 Bunch Spinach, Chopped and Washed thoroughly.
1 cup Moong Dal (Pasi Parupu)
1/2 spn Turmeric powder
Salt to taste.
For Paste:
1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
2 or 3 Red Chilli
4 Tblspn Coconut (Shredded)
2 Tsp oil
Tempering:
Mustard, Red Chili, Few Curry Leaves
Method:
In a Kadai add 1 spn oil and fry cumin seeds, red chili and coconut. Make a Paste and keep aside.
Pressure cook the Moong dal and Chopped spinach together for 2 to 3 whistles.
Simple chunky dal preparation with inclusion of one or more veggie, tempered with coconut gratings is termed as Poricha Kuzhambu , a very common dish made with green gram in many Tamilian homes. This is often served with plain rice topped with ghee but also taste good with roti or chapati. You can use a wide variety of veggies for this dish, my pick here is Green Capsicum.
