Description
This tangy, spicy tamarind chutney goes well with idli, dosai and uttappam. Very easy to prepare if you have a small jar of mixie.
Ingredients | |

1 Lemon Sz | Tamarind(small indian lemon size) |
15 nos | Shallots(sambar onion) |
12 nos | Green chillies(medium size) |
Salt ( as per taste) |
Instructions
Peel the Skin from the shallots. Wash the shallots and green chillies. Soak the tamarind in little warm water for 15 minutes.
Take a small jar of mixie/blender and grind the green chillis with salt for 1 minute. Then add onion and tamarind with water and grind coarsely. Don’t add more water. Serve with steaming idlis, uttappam or dosai with oil on top of thuvaiyal.
Notes
Making in hand grinder(ammi kal) gives you excellent taste.

By adding raw onions, do we get that raw / pungent smell / taste. I was wondering, I normally do every chutney with little sauting in oil. Just wanted to clarify. Picture is so inviting…

No jlakshmi, u don't get that raw smell like big onion….in this thuvaiyal u can get only tangy taste.
