Mutton Kuzhambu(my style)

Description

Mutton Kuzhambu, a sunday special dish goes well with plain rice r any other briyani dishes…i did as ppl do in villages, this is a special gravy of my grandma, learned from her i changed certain ingredients according to my taste..with a hand full of vegetables this gravy will be more tasty n have a very good flavour coz of roasted grinded mix of poppy seeds n fennel seeds…Here we go
Ingredients-1
½ kg Mutton pieces
1 nos Onion (big)
2 nos Tomatoes(medium size)
10 nos Drumstick pieces
1 no Potato(big)
2 tsp Vengaya vadagam
2 tsp Coriander powder
½ tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Ginger (chopped)
3 stks Cilantro leaves
4 nos Curry leaves
4 nos Green chillies(decrease r increase)
3 tsp Oil
Salt as per taste
Ingredients-2
1½ T Fennel seeds
½ cup Fresh grated coconut
1 T Poppy seeds

Instructions

Pressure cook the mutton pieces with turmeric powder, chopped ginger n 2 pinch of salt until 3 whistles…meanwhile dry roast the poppy seeds n fennel seeds, roast until poppy seeds splutter…grind the roasted poppy seeds, fennel seeds with grated coconut in a food processor as in picture, grind them with half cup of water to get a thick paste…

Cut the onion n tomatoes into small pieces..heat oil in a pan, put the vadagam in the oil n let it splutter, add the onion pieces n stir them until they turns transparent…add now the tomatoes pieces n cook them well…add the drumstick pieces to the cooked onion n tomatoes pieces n stir them well for few minutes, add the cooked mutton pieces now n stir them together, keep the cooked water apart just add only the mutton pieces to the onion n tomato mix..stir everything well…mix the coriander powder with the ground mix n keep ready.. cut the green chillies lengthwise n add them with the mutton pieces…when everything is well mixed add the grounded thick mix in the pan…add salt as per taste..adjust ur gravy by adding mutton cooked water r with water(if u think cooked water r too fat)…when its starts boil, add the potatoes pieces n curry leaves..cook them until the vegetables r well cooked…add the cilantro leaves at last..put off the stove..

Serve hot with plain rice r else with any other rice dishes…

Notes

If u dont have vadagam, can replace with bayleaves, cinnamon stick, cloves..

Green chillies can be also partially replaced by red chilli powder..

Can also use jackfruit seeds (palaa kottai)along with drumstick n potatoes…

    Priya,
Superb traditional recipe. Drumsticks and Potatoes is a good addition and the combination of ingredients makes this dish special and all time favorite for meat lovers.
