1 cup | Chick peas[soaked and well boiled] |
4 nos | Brinjal (cut lengthwise) |
1 tsp | Mustard seeds |

2 T | Corriander seeds / malli |
3 tsp | Urad dhal(ooluntham paruppu) |
4 tsp | Channa dhal(kadalai paruppu) |
4 nos | Dry red chilli (small) |
¼ cup | Coconut (grated) (dry dessicated can be used) |
Tamarind (lime size)(extract the pulp) | |
¼ cup | Onion (optional)(chopped) |
Salt as per taste | |
1 tsp | Asafoetida |
Instructions
Boil the soaked chick peas and keep aside.
Cut brinjal lenghtwise and keep aside. and Extract the juice from tamarind and kept ready.
Fry corriander,urad dhal,channa dhal, coconut and red chilli ,asafoetida with 1 tsp oil , till u get a nice aroma and grind to a smooth paste.
Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard , curry leaves. Add onion and brinjal fry well till brinjal is half cooked.
Add the tamarind extract and boil till the raw flavour goes.
Add the boiled chick peas and boil for 2 min with brinjal .
Now add the ground masala paste and salt.
Now Half close the pan and Keep in sim for 2 min.
If the kootu is not thick enough. add 2 tsp rice flour in 1/4 cup of water and add in the boiling mixture. boil for 1 min. u will get the thickness.
Pullipu kootu is ready. serve it with steaming rice and appalam.
