Ingredients | |

2 cup | Chick peas[soaked and well boiled] |
2 nos | Onion[finely chopped] |
1 no | Tomato[big size chopped] |
1 no | Green chilly[chopped] |
1 T | Chilly powder[as per individuals preference] |
1 T | Corriander powder |
1 tsp | Cumin seed powder |
1 tsp | Garam masala |
Salt (as per taste) | |
Oil as per need | |
Whole spices[ few fennel seeds,big cardamom, 2 cloves,1 inch cinnamon stick, 1 bay leaf] | |
Corriander leaves for garnishing | |
1 tsp | Amchoor powder (optional) can substitute with lemon juice |
1 T | Ginger garlic paste |
½ tsp | Cumin seeds |
Instructions
Soak the chickpeas overnight or atleast for 5-6 hrs and pressure cook it with a little salt and keep it aside.Donot pour the rest of the water as it can be used for the gravy.
Take a pan add oil and add the whole spices and jeera
add onion and saute it till translucent
now add greenchillies and ginger garlic paste and saute well till the raw smell disappears
then add tomatoes and saute well till it completely dissolves
Add chilly powder,corriander powder,cuminseed powder,garam masala powder,amchur powder and salt and mix well
Now add the channa and the rest of the water that u used to boil channa and allow it to cook check in between and mash afew channa to make the gravy thick.
Garnish with corriander leaves and serve with Poori.
Notes
If u r in a hurry and u dont have time to soak the chickpeas, u can directly cook in the pressure cooker with half tsp of baking soda and alittle salt.
Amchur can be sustituted by Lemonjuice u can use lemon juice as per ur taste, i have used half tsp of lemon juice not more than that.
If u dont have time to finely chop the onion and tomato, u can directly grind them finely and saute it well and then after adding the masala and chickpeas,pressure cook it for a while say till one whistle.Then the gravy would be fine.
They even add pomegranate powder to this recipe along with amchur, just to bring in a tangy flavour.
The chilly powder,corriander powder,cuminseed powder and garam masala powder can be substituted with CHANNA MASALA if u have it handy at home.
