We, in our family circle have this flair for combining vegetables with non-veggies and get to taste something unusual atleast once a week. In one way, it was good, as we consumed the dish just for the smell and taste without even caring about the veggie. Here's one such interesting combination… Kovakkai cooked with shrimp and loads of freshly ground black pepper. (Kovakkai ~ Ivy gourd, Milagu ~ Black pepper, Eral ~ Prawns/Shrimp)
Ivy Gourd ~ English
Kovakkai ~ Tamil
Kundru ~ Hindi
Dondakaya ~ Telugu
Chapati or Chapatti, is a type of Indian flat bread popular among northern parts of India. This is a simple roti made with Whole wheat flour, salt, oil and water. Making them real soft is the tricky part and search engines just overflow with tips. As far as my verdict goes "eat them immediately after making", having them hot off the griddle is the only solution to have them soft. Ofcourse you can always store, reheat and eat, but they tend to become little chewy.
Combination of onion, tomato, coconut and pottukalai makes this scrumptious chutney. The consistency of this dish looks inbetween sambar and chutney so we at home sometimes.. call it Pottukadalai Sambar.
Very simple and delicious appetizer using calamari fish. (Squid in English, Kanava meen in Tamil)
Coconut Chutney can be made in numerous ways, this is the simplest version. The colour of the chutney changes depending on the ingredients used. With Split roasted gram / Dalai / Pottukadalai playing a dominent role for this variety, makes it look pale white. Mostly this variety is served with Bondas and Bhajis.
