Blackened Salmon Fillets
Ingredients
- 1 fillet Salmon large, thickcut
- 1 tablespoon Freshjax Smokey Southwest grill seasoning for marination
- 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepper powder (decrease for mild flavor)
- 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Kosher salt (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon Garlic (optional) minced, for extra garlicky flavor
- 1/2 teaspoon Soy sauce (light)
- 1 teaspoon Mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon Coarse black pepper powder (optional) for added heat & browning
- 1 tablespoon Oil for pan fry
- 1 teaspoon Parsley (optional) chopped, for decoration
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, mix together Freshjax smokey southwest grill seasoning, cayenne, turmeric powder,soy sauce, mayonnaise, oil & salt. add in finely minced garlic for extra garlicky flavor.
- Pat seasoning mix onto the flesh of the salmon fillet. Coat on all sides.
- Now sprinkle the coarse black pepper powder on top.
- In a large skillet, heat about 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Griddle pan works, use grill pan if you like to have grill marks.
- Place salmon, flesh-side down, in the hot oil. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side.
- Flip salmon with a spatula. Cook for another about 3-4 minutes, or until the skin becomes blackened & crisp.

Notes
- You may use the may use the same measure for two small fillets too.
- Adding crushed garlic is optional but gives immense flavor.

Can you recommend a substitute for Freshjax grill seasoning? Ive never heard of this seasoning before and don’t know where to buy. Can you recommend something easy substitute with some home spices ?
Hello Sheeba, freshjax is available here in USA, the spice blend include little bit of cumin,garlic, onion, oregano, black pepper powder,red pepper flakes. You may use these separate if you have or just use our regular redchilli powder, cumin and black pepper powder. Add a bit of brown sugar / regular sugar and you will be all set.
