Sambhar which is a personal fav at my MIL’s home.

| 2 | Drumsticks chopped |
| 1 tsp | Methi seeds |
| 1 tsp | Mustard seeds |
| 2 stks | Curry leaves |
| 1 | Tomato chopped |
| 1 | Raw mango cut into 2 pieces |
| 1 Lemon Sz | Tamarind |
| 1 cup | Toovar dal |
| 2 stks | Corainder leaves (chopped for garnishing) |
| pinch | Hing |
| Salt (as per taste) | |
| 2 tsp | Arsi maavu |
| 2½ tsp | Sambar powder |
Instructions
Soak Dal for 2 hrs and cook in pressure cooker till soft.
Soak tamarind and take out pulp.
In a pan, pour oil, add mustard. When it splutters, add methi seeds, drumsticks, mango, curry leaves, tomato and saute for 2 mins. Add tamarind pulp, salt, haldi, sambhar powder, hing and cook till pachai smell goes off and sambhar has become thick. Add cooked dal, arsi maavu mixed in 1/4 cup water. Boil for 1 mt, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

Do we need onions for this ? or can it be prepared without onions ?

onions would not be required for this recipe. Yes rice flour is added to give it a thick consistency.
Good recipe. Is it 2 tsp sambar powder in ingredients list?
