Tomato kuzhambu

It is a very tasty side dish for idli and aapam.You want to eat extra idlis with this kuzhambu.

Ingredients
6 nos Tomato
1 cup Grated coconut (15 pieces)p
2 tsp Aniseeds (sombu)
1 tsp Chilli powder
4 tsp Garam masala powder
¼ tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Mustard
4 nos Shallots
10 nos Mint leaves
2 nos Green shilli
3 stks Cilantro
3 tsp Oil
Salt (as per taste)

Instructions

Tomato kuzhambu

Cut the shallots lengthwise , slit open g.chillies, chop the mint leaves and cilantro.

Grind coconut and aniseeds into very fine paste with water.

Cook the tomatoes in cooker with half cup water for 1 whistle or in microwave for 3 minutes . Peel the skin and grind the tomatoes with water.In a bowl mix the ground coconut paste ,ground tomato ,chilli powder,turmeric powder,garam masala powder and salt.keep aside.

Heat 3 tsp oil in the kadai ,add mustard .When it splutters add onion, g.chilies and mint leaves one by one.Saute for a minute.Now add tomato and the spice mix.Let it to boil for 10 minutes.Garnish with cilantro. Serve hot with idlis ,dosai,aapam or chappathi.

    hey kavi arun i have tried this and this one came out good. the plus was the mint flavour. i have also repeated this, but coming out with comment lately . 🙂

    Oh Yeah Shan, my MIL also use whole garam masala instead of powder. But i liked this method so posted in this way.

    Kavi, the same way i used to make this kuzhambu, instead of garam masala i used to season with Pattai, kirambu and elachi…Also i add veggie’s like brinjol and drumstick to it or raddish…Tastes yummy…

      Hi Kavi,

      Sorry, I couldn't reply you immediately but got the problem fixed though. Wasn't home yesterday and missed a whole bunch of comments. Actually after you upload your thumbnail image, select it and immediately the icon close to "font family" block should be highlighted, just click that to unlink and submit and there you go… the image will be show up with the recipe.
