Club Hoagie

Description

A hoagie is an elongated bread roll stuffed with a selection of meat, cheese, greens and veggies. Here's my version of Hoagie sub with ham, bacon, chicken, onions, peppers, lettuce, cilantro and cheese stuffed in toasted wheat roll.

Toasted Sub / Hoagie roll / Wheat bread roll / Sub sandwich / Fast food Subs

Ingredients
1 no Wheat hoagie roll (12″)
4 slice Honey roasted ham
4 nos Bacon strips
2 no Boneless chicken tender
1 no Onion (red)
1 cup Choice of peppers (thinly sliced)
¼ cup Lettuce shredded
2 stks Coriander leaves
4 slice Cheddar cheese
1 cup Italina blend cheese
¼ cup Butter / olive oil
1 clove Garlic
¼ tsp Salt (for chicken)
¼ tsp Pepper (for chicken)
3 tsp Lemon juice
2 tsp Mayonise

Instructions

This is a whole wheat Hoagie, about a foot long and would feed 2.

Cut into 2 small rolls of 6" long and cut half way on one side and open as shown. Melt butter and add crushed garlic and mix. Brush this garlicy butter over the bread and line them in a baking sheet. Turn the overn to broil setting, keeping the pan in middle rack toast for 30 seconds. Remove and keep aside.

Grilling options for Chicken: Any stove top grill pan or electric grill. Marinate chicken tender with salt, pepper and lemon juice for set aside for 1/2 hour. (Any additional grill seasonings can also be added). Grill for a minute on each side or until fully cooked with grill marks.  Cool and slice into small pieces.

Grill the bacon slices for about a minute on each side or until they turn crispy. Place them over a paper towel to drian excess fat. Can be cooked over regular pan too.

Cut the onions and pepper lengthwise, toss them with little olive oil and pinch of salt. On the toasted bread roll, first place slices of cheddar on each side, followed by ham slices, chicken pieces, veggies, shredded cheese blend and slightly crumbles bacon.

Again turn on the oven to broil setting, the upper coil should light up bright when this is turned on. Place the sub on the middle rack and toast for a minute or less to melt the cheese and to get little brown marks on the meat and veggies.

This is how it should look like.

Add in the shredded lettuce, chopped coriander and few dollops of mayo, close the bread roll and press gently.

Serve hot with salad and soup.

Notes

Chicken can be baked, cooked on a pan or steam cooked if you don't have a grill.

Hoagie: Whole Wheat / Italian White (Available in most supermarket bakery section, Italian markets or stores stock them too, bought mine from Sams Club bakery, 6 (12" rolls) for $3.50)

Butter can be replaced with Olive oil.

Choice of peppers :Green / Orange / Red / Yellow / Pickled Jalapeno

Serves 2 approx.

Italian blend: Swiss, Mozzarella, Provolone, Romano, Asiago, Parmesan (Kraft brand used)

      Aruna,

Any meat of your choice or even veggie with mushroom, olives will be tasty too. Paneer with garlic vinaigrette would be awesome too…. Try your own combo for each roll. Enjoy!!
