I have always wanted to try an Eggless version of brownies as some of my friends are vegetarians and every time when we hit a party or get together there is always a request for egg less baked treats. I had this brownie recipe which was shared by one of my American friend from work which makes the ultimate best brownies, to which i usually stick to keep myself safe! 😳 This time i tried the same recipe by substituting yogurt in the place of egg and here is what i got…. they were decent looking tasty brownies with a more of a dark chocolate cake like texture, light and satisfying to put an end to my sweet cravings!

Ingredients | |
Unsweetened dark chocolate chips / grated | 1/2 cup or 2 ounce |
Butter (unsalted) | 1 stick or 1/2 cup |
Sugar | 1 cup |
Salt | 1/2 teaspoon |
Baking powder | 1/2 teaspoon |
All purpose flour | 3/4 cup |
Yogurt (plain) | 1/2 cup |
Vanilla extract | 1 teaspoon |
Nuts (Walnut or Pecans) | 1/2 cup (chopped) + a few for topping |
Before we start, preheat the oven @ 350F and keep it ready.
Cut the butter in a microwave safe bowl.
Add in choco chips or grated unsweetened chocolate. I have used dark chocolate, you may use semi sweet if you prefer a little sweet. Microwave for 30 seconds to just melt the butter & chocolate lightly or you use a double boiler to melt.
Once done, lightly whisk to combine.
Once done, let this mixture cool a bit. (Make sure you cool completely before you proceed to the next step)
Now add the yogurt to the chocolate mixture. (I have used light/thin consistency yogurt almost like a thick buttermilk)
Now add the sugar to it and mix.
Whisk to get the sugar blend with the chocolate mixture.
Add in vanilla extract.
Now sieve all the dry ingredients together… All purpose flour, baking powder and salt.
Slowly add the flour mixture to the chocolate mixture.
Whisk gently to mix.
Stir in the chopped nuts.
Use a square baking dish lined with baking paper.
Pour in the batter and tap to settle.
Decorate with some more nuts and bake in the middle rack of your oven for 22- 25 minutes or untilt a toothpick inserted comes in clean.
Once done let cool and then cut into squares. Serve them warm with scoop of ice cream or store them for later 😉
Notes
- Yields 20 (2″x 2″) brownies
- I have used dark unsweetened chocolate and grated them for measuring. Actually bar size varies hence given the measure in cups. My brownies were little less sweet but will turn out sweet if you use semi sweet chocolate.
- Nuts are optional but brownies taste better with nuts, so either use walnuts or pecans.
- Yogurt can be thick, it has to be like a thick buttermilk consistency.
- Oven temperature and shape and size of pan varies so adjust the baking time. It took me 23 minutes for the center to come out clean when a tooth pick inserted.
