Description:
Finding ideas for kid’s lunch box is one of the challenging tasks for many, especially if the kids are very fussy. My son who’s a picky eater somewhat seems to like these mini idlis, gave a green signal to pack it for his school lunch. Here is what I packed ….Mini Idlis tossed in little Milagai podi with grated carrots and cilantro garnish, Plain yogurt with some grapes and juice box as bonus.

Ingredients for Podi Idli | |
---|---|
Idli Batter | 1 cup |
Idli Milagai Podi | 2 Teaspoons |
Grated carrot | 1 Tablespoon |
Cilantro | 2 teaspoons (chopped) |
Sesame Oil | 2 teaspoons |
Mustard seeds | 1/4 teaspoon |
Cumin seeds | 1/4 teaspoon |
Curry leaves | 3 (finely chopped) |
Plain Yogurt | 1/2 cup |
Fruits of Choice | 1/2 cup |
Method:
Pour idli batter in small idli plates and steam for 8-9 minutes over medium flame. Switch off and it cool off a little bit. Scoop out the idlis and keep aside. If you don’t have those mini idli plates then just use regular ildi plates and then cut the idlis into small pieces. Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds and finely chopped curry leaves. Add the mini idli pieces along with idli milagai podi and give a quick toss. Switch off and garnish with grated carrot and cilantro leaves.
Notes:
A cup of batter should be ideal for two mini plates yielding about 32 mini idlis.
Adjust milagai podi based on its spiciness.
Just play with the garnish and toss some extra veggies of choice.
No salt necessary as idli batter and milagai podi already has salt i it.
