hello,everybody iam deepa

hello,everybody
iam deepa from london.iam new to this site.i have a question about kumon in south india.my son is going to kumon from 1yr and improved a lot in both maths and english.next month we r shifting pernamently to bangalore,i want to know if there is a kumon centre in b'lore.

I have my 2 children ages 4

I have my 2 children ages 4 and 6 enrolled. I began kumon with my oldest who has now graduated age 13 now and highly recommend this program. This is in no way a SHORT fix. It takes time and dedication. My oldest child is now top in her school in math and her school placed number 1 in florida on the AMC math test..... She also scored 3rd internationally and her school scored 26 internationally against all schools. I have seen the results long term.... My younger ones now do their work like second nature. Yes it is costly however my 13 year old is now already getting invitations to top college programs in the USA ....... Learning is life long. The difference with kumon is that the child masters the material before they move on. You will see results when they get into higher level math problems and some see it with in a few months. I questioned the program myself and boy am i glad i stuck with it. You can check out the amc 8 math test online .... It is an international math test. also check out her school at www.disovery-academy.org Good luck to everyone and if you have any questions at all please email me...

No Kumon class in south of

No Kumon class in south of India. Kumon has 14 centers in India as on date. And all the centers are located in North India.

Hello, I am not Indian, but

Hello,

I am not Indian, but my daughter is. I adopted her from an orphanage in Mumbai two years ago. Nina is now 9 years old. I am a single mother of European decent and I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico USA. Nina was very behind in both language and math when she came to this country. She got some instruction at the orphanage, but she was nevertheless struggling with language. The public schools are horrible in New Mexico. They offer ESL to Spanish-speaking students, but not to my daughter who spoke Hindi. They didn't give her any kind of extra help or attention. NOTHING. I doubt if most of the teachers could find India on a map. The educators are inferior and cannot write English well. The dropout rate among high school students is fifty percent. New Mexico ranks 48th in the nation for education. With that said, Nina has been doing Kumon for four months. Her math and reading/writing have greatly improved. I am convinced her rapid improvement in both subjects is due to Kumon. Kumon is a commitment. The program is about repetition and eventually mastery. It's something children are not taught in the American public school system anymore. It's very sad that one must seek outside the public school system for something so very basic. Kumon gets an A+ from me.

My son is abt to be five

My son is 4.5yrs old and we have enrolled him for Kumon Reading 3 months back. 99% of the time he looks at the picture and guesses the word. And now he doesnt like to read anything else that doesnt have any picture even if it is written 'CAT IN A HAT'. I am wondering what is correct procedure of teaching kumon? Experienced Kumom parents please respond.

My 2 c. I had my daughter

My 2 c.

I had my daughter in Kumon for 6 months and pulled her out as I was NOT seeing the benefit. Its way too expensive for me in the overall picture. Each level would approximately take 9 months. There are 8 arithmatic levels which is 72 months that roughly translates to nearly $8000. This I felt was too heavy a price for learning arithmatic.

I now do own wo my own worksheets and use www.mathworksheetsite.com

hi, present we are staying

hi,
present we are staying in australia.here my 4yrs son goes to kumon but i want to continue it after going to india.how can i continue it in india(hyderabad, andhra pradesh).please tell me if there is kumon in hyderabad.

Kumon worked for my 8Yrs

Kumon worked for my 8Yrs old Son a lot, just in six months of time he is able to do a good amount of addition and subtraction and the best thing is he is doing it independently.
I would definitely recommend parents to go to Kumon.

I went to Kumon orientation

I went to Kumon orientation the other day. I asked them simple questions after my daughter went through the evaluation (which is they give a work sheet to her to complete)

1. What she will be learning in the next 1 year...
They said it depends upon the kid and the parent.
2. If she does the worksheets faster, will she give more worksheets....
No
3. Do you have any miestones. something like.. in 1 year she will be good in muiltiplication... etc.
They said no milestones.. Only milestone is pay 100/month before 5th.
4. How will I know it is effective.. Do you conduct any test..
We know that it is effective...You dont have to know that.. Just pay $100 and relax..
We dont conduct any test... or rate students...
So.. you guys ask some questions and decide for yourself.
usually, they always give worksheets which are easier for your kid..so that parent feel good. In the school if they are teaching Multiplication... Kumon gives worksheets on addition. So Kids do them with out much help... Kids happy... parents happy and $100 changed hands....

In my opinion,it is a waste

In my opinion,it is a waste of time and money.Instead you can get books and make them do.All this centres are all money makers.Kumon they don't teach the concepts, just time based .My kids said please take us,we will better and to this day they are doing good and they are in higher level of Math in highschool.

I did both subjects for a

I did both subjects for a year. And found reading to have no effect on the child. Math is good to get the child's confidence up , increase focus & speed. But once teh child gets the hang of it iy's best to pull tehchild out and do math that involves word problems etc.

Kumon classes....  I have

Kumon classes....

I have heard mixed reviews about Kumon. How much of a help is it for a first grader? The orientation was impressive. Can you please share your experiences and thoughts. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Kumon is OK for practicing

Kumon is OK for practicing math calculation skills. It helps set up a solid math foundation and a good working-attitude for kids. But it has a major downside - no problem-solving, no creativity. If your child is doing fine in basic calculations, I recommend you use Beestar (www.beestar.org) instead. It provides free curriculum-based weekly math practice with many interesting real-life problems - very good program. My child has been using it for 2 years.

I don't know whether Kumon

I don't know whether Kumon is good, for we haven't tried them before. But I also strongly recommend Beestar.org.
http://www.beestar.org/index.jsp
It is a website full of free math practice, English programs, social studies and Gifted & Talented programs. My little James started school last year, but he really hated the boring math. Then his teacher recommended Beestar to us. He began to like doing the weekly math practice, because there are interesting stories and vivid pictures for kids. He also likes checking the honor roll every week, and he is so happy when his name appears. Registering as parent, I can receive the Email from beestar every week to notice me how James was doing in beestar. I am considering registering other programs for him.

Hi I have 3 boys ( now

Hi

I have 3 boys ( now doing 11th grade, 4th grade and my little boy is just 5 years old). I started with my older one and he did not like it when he was 7, tried for few months and gave up, Then tried for my second kid, when he was 5 , ( though he does not like much), it shows lot of efforts and improvement in his math skills, so I decided to have my little one start when he was about to be 4, its been over a year and he is doing great, he comes back with great interest and does his work, needs some help from me,, but other than that he is doing great, he can now do addition of numbers with 3 Like 24+3 etc.. he seems to be good. So I guess it really depends on kids and the right Kumon centers. I know I also hate those big sheets of homework.. but I have seen improvement for my second son in his class grades mainly for Math. So anyway its upto you.. In 1 or 2 months u may not see the difference, may eb it may take few months to see a noticeable difference.

Good Luck !!

as far as i ve

as far as i ve heared....ppl are not feeling good to send their children to kumon classes. they give lot of preassure to children by giving loads of home work sheets and both the child as well as parents shuld be ready to do hard work. but it really worked for children, who are joining in private schools -to get thru easily in the enterance exams and for children who go back to india and continue their studies. otherwise its better not to send, as children starts to hate numbers.

truelly speaking i dont

truelly speaking i dont like the kumon anymore..i put my daughter for kumon but it is just waste of money they r just making money out of those sheet. they dont explain to the kid about the sheet they just give the sheet to the kid and sometimes tell them littlebit about it not brefly...Finally u have to work hard with ur kid and teach them about the kumon sheet so whats the use sending our kids to kumon just to get those kumon sheets now a days u can get kumon book at any book store..it didnt work for me...I stopped sending my daughter to kumon and started working with her at home. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND KUMON TO ANYONE I DIDNT LIKE IT...IF U WANNA TRY GO AHEAD TRY IT AND SEE HOW IT WILL WORK FOR U

It works wonderfully for my

It works wonderfully for my 2 sons. Their structured program with worksheets have saved me from hunting for supplemental books and materials to teach my children. I don't waste money anymore in buying materials which my children might not use and confuse them or create learning gaps. I am glad the Kumon staff don't teach my children because through practicing the worksheets, they have learned how to study independently. I use Kumon time as a way to to know my children progress since it takes only 5 minutes to check their work daily. Kumon workbooks are great for pre-schoolers, but the worksheets provide the means for my boys to master a concept and prepare them for higher levels math such as algebra & calculus. Kumon saves my life as a busy working parent!

Very expensive source of

Very expensive source of worksheets.. :(. For average 2 kids, $200 / month!!!
